making good time Listen to sample
This song comes from an expression I heard from my good friend, Bill Frey, who had picked it up years before from his father, Al Frey - "We might be lost, but at least we're making good time". I was quite taken by the phrase, reflecting as it does on people's tendencies to ram forward with stuff with little regard to where they are, where they came from, and where they're headed.
Will – guitar, fiddle, vocals
Lyrics:
Father says son, listen to me
What you gonna do eventually
Make something of yourself, don’t you see
Got your whole life yet to run
Son says to Dad, whatever I do
You can bet I won’t end up like you
Stuck in a rut with nothing new
Life’s just too much fun
Chorus:
Can’t see the future, can’t remember the past
Trying to hang on to something that lasts
All these options, so little time, can’t make up my mind
Don’t know where we’re going, but we’re making good time
Bobby says to Susie, I love you
And I think that you could love me too
If you convinced yourself you wanted to
Spend your life with me
Susie says I’m not so sure
My life is still an open door
Don’t want to end up on the floor
In a place where I can’t see
Chorus
Bridge:
Time keeps rolling anyway
No matter what you do or say
Sometimes you go, sometimes you stay
Sometimes you just get in the way
The president says when he talks to you
He knows just what he wants to do
No need to listen to me and you
And the state of the nation is good
Now wait one minute I hear you say
Maybe I don’t like going that way
Not what I envision for the U.S.A.
Cross your fingers knock on wood
Chorus
